I installed a potentiometer into the positive speaker wire ( ) so that I could independently control the volume. Say you want to hear Waze directions while listening to satellite radio, you can do that. The small speaker is actually optional, but allows you to hear Android audio even if the Bluetooth source is not selected in Uconnect. I placed this between the factory plug and the Customtronix cable so I could retain the extra a/v inputs provided by the Customtronix cable. Carperformance also provides a cable to connect between the Uconnect and the main factory plug. It turns out Bluetooth is the better way to go as Uconnect allows you to specify both a phone Bluetooth connection and a media Bluetooth connection - a really nice feature of Uconnect. (For some reason there is also a microphone input which doesn't work.) I initially used the A/V output to input the Android audio into Uconnect via the Customtronix cable (so it shows up as an AUX source in the Uconnect screen). The Android box has connectors for these two plugs as well as a GPS antenna, audio output, reverse camera input (RCA plug and trigger wire), auxiliary A/V input (RCA audio/video and 12V ACC power) and a small speaker. The Android box will detect touchscreen signals and can also interrupt the video signal to display its own screen or simply pass the factory Uconnect screen and touch signals back to Uconnect. After you reassemble the box, there will be a small cable hanging down with two small connectors on it, one for the screen and the other for touch. They give you some new ribbon cables to go from the new board to the factory board. ![]() You then install the Carperformance circuit board, connect the small, factory Uconnect ribbon cables to it and then reinstall the Uconnect board. You end up removing the screen controller circuit board, disconnected the two small ribbon cables for screen and touch control. Basically, you will need some Torx screwdrivers (T8 and T9, I recall) and a trim tool. All the antennae are color-coded FAKRA connectors, so it's very easy to reinstall.Ĭarperformance provides a nice photographic guide to take apart the Uconnect box. There is also a connector for the USB bus (SD card and USB ports), the AM/FM antenna, a combined GPS/SXM antenna, and the Uconnect antenna. There is a large connector at the back of the box (for me, this already has the Customtronix Rax cable plugged in to allow for front camera input, aux input). You remove the Uconnect from the dash (described elsewhere, but basically, pull the AC controller panel off, unscrew the trim around the Uconnect screen and then unscrew the screen). So, if you are willing to spend the money and don't mind the technical work and want to have a full Android touchscreen system on your dash, please read on. Also, it is not for someone who is nervous opening up their Uconnect screen and installing additional circuit boards. Let me start by saying, this isn't cheap, though looking at past postings on other Chrysler forums, it has dropped in price by >50% over the past couple of years. In search of a better solution, I found another Swedish company (not sure why these companies are all in Sweden) that sells a Uconnect touchscreen interface with a dedicated Android box. Also, the aspect ratio of the Uconnect screen didn't match the phone, so looked strange and distorted. ![]() You could not control the phone from the Uconnect screen.
